Black eye for love

Here is a poem created at the Spoken Word event for the Coldsnap Music Festival, January 27, 2012. There was an open mike for sharing poetry and creative writing.  This poem was created using a networking process with a large group to generate a theme and write a collective poem.  I (Andrew) worked as facilitator collecting and piecing together the collaborative suggestions of the group. There were about fifty participants at Friends creating the piece. It took about ten minutes.

A black eye for love

I took a black eye for love
I start to fear
I fear to start
Can’t trust this passion
Can’t trust this soul
There’s this hole in my heart
My family’s generosity
Feeds this insecurity
But there is still hope
There is still eternity
However long as it takes
I will take a black eye for love
Again

Trapped inside
small dark box
hard to breath
Cannot reason out of this one
Just calm the heart
ask for help
wait in hope and faith
Love appears
lifts the latch
freedom

Moore’s Meadow

Moore’s Meadow has an interesting history. Parts of it used to be a dump. Other parts would flood every spring. Years ago there were plans to develop the area but a movement was started to preserve it because it represents a unique micro-climate. There are plants in the meadow that don’t grow anywhere else in the area. One is the pink lady slipper.
